Why
Profit Centers and MLM's don't Work for
Most Professionals
There
are TWO reasons:
1. The practitioner is not establishing a new line
(system) on which the new products get presented fairly
automatically and with the same regularity as the
other procedures the patient undergoes while in
the office. I mean you would not forget to ask the
patient for a health history or get his exam done
or get his Social Security number and other data -
or would you? An iron clad system or flowchart, which
ensures that the product always gets presented, is
a must.
There is however one more sub-factor on this point
#1 and that is: you better establish the reason or
the need for buying your supplements with your patients
with a test or something of the sort, which clearly
shows the patient that there is a need. Such a testing
device exists. People believe tests more than your
word - thus use tests and use tests till you drop
or your results of selling your products will be low.
2. Doctors do not set up a completely separate
and utterly professional and commercial sales department
to create down-lines such as other practices or other
suitable establishments. After that, these down-lines
will sell those products according to point #1 and
which likewise will be taught how to establish a separate
professional commercial sales department to recruit
more distributors for them according this point #2,
thus continuing the growth of your down-lines.
And because MLM's big money is in other people selling
the product and you getting overrides, the whole MLM
plan fails if you do not recruit in huge quantity.
Of course it also fails if you and your down-line
do not sell the product. Thus the above two steps
must be implemented to ensure success no matter what
MLM -no matter what business. It is never the particular
MLM - it is always the lack of the above two steps.
Keep in mind that these are TWO distinct steps --trying
to mix the selling of products and the recruiting
together and trying to do it all as a "one man
show" is poised for failure.
As Paul Getty once said:
" I'd rather make one dollar from a hundred
people than a hundred dollar from my own effort."
Having hundreds of outlets which have an existing
flow of people who could use your product and whose
owner of each outlet is eager to promote this product
is what will bring you financial independence in a
few short years.
Let's talk about point number two a bit more:
I have spoken to hundreds of doctors who have attempted
some MLM and, after a few years of rejections from
their peers and friends, they gave up.
Never mind those extra hours after office many of
them spent on traveling to seminars, which do NOT
teach a system which easily can be duplicated by
doctors. Those motivational seminars are there
to do just that, motivate people, but you are already
motivated otherwise you would not have signed up.
In those meetings you also learn how the distributor
can talk to anyone he knows or meets on the street!
There is nothing wrong with that - the "talk
to everybody system" which every MLM company
in the universe promotes with great fanfares.
But it is the slow boat to China and definitely NOT
suitable for most professionals!
Just because a system is successful there is no reason
that one could not find new ways of doing it even
better, and the above two points do just that. The
point of completely separating the sales of products
from the recruiting of new distributors, take the
clever but clumsy "sell to a friend" MLM
system, into a sophisticated business principle while
not compromising the basic and powerful MLM principles.
When
starting a new project you always must make sure that
it does NOT interfere with what you are doing now.
You must always have extra staff, extra money and
extra time, otherwise you better not engage in a new
project.
Going out for lunch with a professional colleague
and "casually" mentioning this "new
thing" which you are involved in usually ends
up with you feeling somewhat degraded - especially
after you have been shut down a few times with a "
you are into that too?"
The truth is such efforts are simply not enough.
Thus start a new sales crew, which does the recruiting
for you. You are needed IN your practice as a doctor
and as a leader - it is THAT professional reputation
which you are after and which also will make your
MLM a great success. Do not rob your practice from
your presence by being sidetracked doing something
you really don't like all that much and probably are
not even good at.
Getting side-tracked with those casual recruiting
efforts could be compared to a bridge builder who
build the first pillar on one side of the river and
who then takes this very same pillar and put it on
the other side of the river instead of building a
second pillar. It's totally unworkable. Can you see
how this bridge would NEVER be crossable?
Well,
that is how it works if you try to add an additional
business but do not set up an additional infrastructure
with people, money and all the necessary tools.
The recruiting of new distributors via your new sales
crew should not limit itself to your geographical
area, but should be done all over the country.
When planning to become successful, it is not advisable
to think that your product will only be bought by
people who already know you. Well, you will sell some
to those people of course, but if you have similar
experiences as I and other people I know then you
know that the first people to shoot you down are the
close friends and relatives.
After all, the author Robert T. Kiyosaki of "Rich
Dad Poor Dad" fame, says that many of his friends
have not only NOT followed his advice even though
they saw his success, but have sent him materials
on why his ideas will not work even though he has
already succeeded in it. If that can happen to an
extremely successful guy like Robert T. Kiyosaki then
what do you expect from those acquaintances of yours?
Yes, talk to them about your opportunities, give them
a chance for sure. It would be a crime not to offer
health and financial opportunities with residual income
to them. But at the same time do what successful businesses
do --create departments, even different companies,
hire people, make a strategic plan, think big,
ensure that it all gets executed and you will see
huge success!
You probably say, isn't MLM all about other people
selling your products and only getting paid when they
actually sell it and thus no time and energy investment
ever?
Well yes, but did you see it working for you and other
doctors and if it did, do YOU really want to do all
this selling of products and all this recruiting of
other doctors, friends, neighbors, and patients who
even if you succeed with a few they will usually not
carry the torch the way you wanted them and thus once
again, NO MONEY?
I
think that the most important facts to you are:
a) The product helps people to be healthier.
b) That you personally do not have to spend too much
extra time (if any)
c) That you somehow have a system which makes patients
accept the product in fairly high percentages from
your staff and not necessarily from you directly.
d) That you do not have to go through all those rejections
from patients and especially not from other doctors
whom you might want involved in this.
e) That you make lots of money which will be residual
income and which will not stop - even grow - regardless
whether you own your practice or not.
Besides the most money lost is NOT the money you sometimes
lose but the money you never make. Does that make
sense to you?
Again, lets quote Robert T. Kiyosaki:
"I have never seen a successful person who
did not lose lots of money, but I have seen many poor
people who never lost any thing"
Another quote from his book:
"The
Guy sitting with firewood in his arms on a cold freezing
night, and he is yelling at the pot-bellied stove,
"when you give me some heat then I will put some
wood in."
And
when it comes to money, love, happiness, sales, all
one needs to remember is first to give what you wanted
and it will come back in droves.
You might need to spend a few hundreds for a few weeks
or months to get the above system going but you will
create a retirement fund of unimaginable proportions.
Summary:
1) Regardless of what product you choose for your
extra profit center, make sure that you have a way
to have tests, which show the potential customer that
he needs your product. Tests are the missing link
to the success of selling wellness products such as
supplements. This test will also be a great additional
reason why those patients who bought your wellness
supplements will tell their friends about you. It
makes you different and special with many options
- it gives patients the feeling that you care. It
will help in bringing in more new patients for you
- it will be a practice builder.
2) Set up a separate 'department' in your office that
can take care of your MLM for you. If you are serious
to create a workable MLM or Profit Center in your
office, call us to set you up, teach you, and even
create your sales team for you.
